Accessories are a fab way of updating your look without having to commit to a whole new fashion trend and also a way to add a touch of your personality to any clothing. Jewellery allows you to take an outfit from day to night, give your clothing more pizazz or colour, create a focal point and add interest to your ensemble. Accessories can be jewellery or other items such as bags, shoes, belts, scarves and even hair adornments.

The accessory trends that are really hot this season, give you plenty of fun options to add to your jewellery box. You’ll find descriptive terms such as; statement, layering, floral, bright, monochromatic, blush, metallic, retro, geometric, mismatched and asymmetric; describing what’s in fashion for Spring-Summer 2017 accessories.

Here’s what you need to know so that you can update your look and have some fun during the spring and summer season!

Statement is a key word when it comes to accessorising. For Spring-Summer 17 massive earrings are on trend and they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.  Not to be out done, the bangle is also coming into it’s own, as a cuff or statement piece. These items can be worn on their own or part of a whole jewellery ensemble.

Layering is another big trend and can be worn by teaming finer necklaces or bracelets together.  For a fun take on these two popular trends, why not mix and match your statement pieces with your finer layered items. Add further pieces such as bangles and rings to create an accessories story. You don’t have to wear all matching items either; try mixing up your pieces to create an eclectic look. If you keep something in common (like the colour) they will go well together, even if not matching. If you’re more of a daring dresser, then go all out for clashing pieces. Make the look your own…go on, break the rules!

If you want to mix up your accessories a whole lot more, then this mismatched earring trend could be the one for you. Believe it or not wearing earrings that are not quite the same, is really big on the runway. To make this work well in the real world, you need to have some commonality between the different earrings. One of the easiest ways to do this is to either wear the same style of earring but in differen’t colours, or the same earring materials but in a different design for each earring.

Chokers are also a big trend this season. From dangling chains or leather styles to larger statement sizes. The choker  may be a throw back to the 90’s but this spring-summer they are worn with a modern twist. If you have a short neck however, the best version are the ones that are thin and dangle down like a scarf, as this will help to elongate you.

Floral Bag

Just like flower patterns and embroidery are huge on the runway, so is the floral design in accessories. This look comes in jewellery but also can be seen adorning a bag or shoes as a motif. Another popular style is the retro look from the 60’s and 70’s, which come out in geometric shapes and gypsy/boho flavours. These two trends can team really well together.

What else is trending? Tassels, fringing, crosses and feathers; these really decorative elements can take your accessories from a rock & roll look, to bohemian or just pretty and feminine.

What are the most popular colours? It’s a whole artists pot of mixed together tones. Everything from the bright and vivid through to shades of blush. If a monochromatic palette is more your style, then you’ve got plenty to choose from. By combining your gold, metallic and lighter neutrals with deeper colours, you have a fantastic dark and light accessory ensemble.

Why not try something this season that you havn’t done before. If you like a particular fashion trend but are not confident to wear it as an outfit, take a small step and wear it as  jewellery.

There has never been a better time to add some new pieces to your jewellery collection!

Happy Styling!
